This is the first year with the number of Best Picture noms doubled:

Avatar
The Blind Side

An Education
The Hurt Locker
Inglourious Basterds
Precious
A Serious Man
Up
Up in the Air
Up is only the second animated film to ever be nominated for a Best Picture, and the inclusion of The Blind Side is quite a surprise. While it probably won’t [...]

I’d missed the third and fourth “Laser Cats” Digital Shorts from SNL, as the jokes grew just too thin to keep going along with. Then they rebooted the fictional series and the skit itself by bringing in James Cameron, Sigourney Weaver, and some really smart Aliens/Avatar jokes.

While most people leave an Avatar screening jubilant at the stunning effects and absorbing premise, in the long term many moviegoers are reporting feelings of depression.
Pandora is just too beautiful and unattainable, fans write on forum threads with titles like “Ways to cope with the depression of the dream of Pandora being intangible”; they’re reporting [...]

My two younger sisters and I have a tradition, like many Jews in the suburbs, of seeing a movie on Christmas Day. It’s not usually a movie we’d see normally (we’re a subtitles-and-metaphors-and-irony-in-movies family, not a steampunk-Will-Smith-car-chase family). Like, we saw Dreamgirls one year, and that was out of character.
So we’ve been pouring over our [...]

On the syllabus for next fall: famed film school the University of Southern California is adding a course focusing on 3-D films, which is — as Harry Potter and Avatar can attest — a rapidly booming development for the movie industry.
USC’s School of Cinematic Arts is developing a program for fall 2010 that will “address [...]

“I find it curious how slow the live-action business has been in jumping on this opportunity. [...]

Apparently this is some sort of meme: subtitling Hitler’s rants to match up to pop-culture happenings. I haven’t seen its predecessors, but this clip, featuring a furious Fuhrer ripping apart James Cameron’s Avatar in front of his underlings, is priceless.
“I didn’t wait ten years for Captain Planet with cats!” So many other great one-liners, but [...]

After a confusing week of not knowing the fate of the new Green Hornet film, we can tell you that it’s not dead! Rather, there was a director shake-up, with Michel Gondry now attached; and in the actors department, Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz are now part of the cast.
But the movie’s been delayed until [...]

Are you pumped for James Cameron’s Avatar? If so, get thee to Fandango or MovieTickets.com to snatch up early tickets to the film, hitting theaters on December 18.
That’s right — the movie is four solid months away, and yet due to the intense buzz generated by Comic-Con and the recent “Avatar Day” (on which fans [...]

Friday was the long-awaited “Avatar Day”, in which the many people anticipating James Cameron’s new sci-fi film were treated to 16 minutes of footage. Soon thereafter, the teaser trailer debuted online… and the ensuing reaction has been mostly negative, or at least “meh”.
This is the best-quality version of the trailer that I’ve found thus far, [...]
