Humpday Silly: Hugh Jackman’s 2009 Oscar opening

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Has it already been a year since Hugh Jackman performed his fantastic tribute to the Best Picture nominees, all while singing and slinging himself over ridiculous props? Good on you, Mr. Jackman, for getting through the opening monologue without any nasty jokes and getting us geared up for the upcoming telecast. I gotta say, I [...]

Humpday Silly: “Teen Girl Squad: Valentine’s Day”

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Sorry for your weekly dose of funny video being a day late, but considering that Valentine’s is Sunday, maybe the week seems longer than usual. Today’s themed video is a few years old but doesn’t feel like it. You gotta love watching these hapless cartoon teens try to capture the hearts of fickle high-school boys:

Vamlumtime’s [...]

Fandom Friday: ‘Lost’ producers make fun of fans

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Happy Fandom Friday! Each week, I highlight an aspect of the various fan communities that have sprung around mostly movies and TV shows, but sometimes books, games, or even just memes, if the level of dedication is awesome enough.

Note: This pic is not meant to be some sort of hint — it’s from an article [...]

Humpday Silly: “I don’t dance”

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

An oldie but a goodie — Angel gets approached at a party.

So great to see moments of levity like this in Joss Whedon’s somber show.
The search for that classic led me to this fun mash-up, which makes you realize just how much everyone in the Buffyverse dances. Commentary on teen life, meta-inclusion of [...]

Masks, Hidden Footage, and Phone Calls: The Scariest Movie Moments

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

I’m a big horror movie fan; not to be confused with the awesome people who are devotees of the classics, what I mean is that I get crazy thrills out of the new generation of scary flicks. Considering my favorite movies in this genre, I’ve learned that two major themes scare my socks off:
- Stuff [...]

New ‘Alice in Wonderland’ video

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

It’s a short one unfortunately, but it’s packed with tidbits about the production process, and the creative impetus behind the first film to see Alice return to the terrifying world.

We can only hope that this is an excerpt from the longer version that will be part of the DVD extras.

Humpday Silly: “Italian Family Reenacts ‘Lost’”

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Need a quick refresher on the show before its sixth and final season premieres? Check out this guy’s family reenacting the key scenes from the first five seasons, from the smoke monster to “we have to go back to the island”. There’s a two-minute bit at the beginning just about TV in general; it’s cute, [...]

Adult Swim picks up ‘Robot Chicken’ for two more seasons

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

That means forty more episodes of Seth Green’s irreverent stop-motion comedy! Says Green,
“We’re very excited… We never expected to do a second season, let alone a fifth and sixth, so we are thrilled by the audience response and how the show continues to grow internationally.”
Some notable bits from recent episodes:

And the award for biggest horror cliché is…

Monday, January 25th, 2010

…if this were a slasher flick, you’d never get the answer, because your call would’ve been dropped. YouTube user richfofo has painstakingly compiled a montage of failed cell phones in movies, entitled “No Signal (and other cellular drama)”, which starts cute enough. That it eventually ends up grating is only a commentary on how tired [...]

Humpday Silly: “James Cameron’s Laser Cats 5″

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

I’d missed the third and fourth “Laser Cats” Digital Shorts from SNL, as the jokes grew just too thin to keep going along with. Then they rebooted the fictional series and the skit itself by bringing in James Cameron, Sigourney Weaver, and some really smart Aliens/Avatar jokes.
